This is Not a Goal

I’m going to pretend that I did not take a months’ long break on the blog and my YouTube and my Instagram. We’re just going to jump right in. So welcome back!

I am not setting any new goals for the new year. I’m just not.

Well, at least not the way I would’ve in previous years. Let’s be honest - goal setting sounds like a good idea, but it has never really worked for me. I create a vague big idea plan, then I overthink it, start down the path a bit, get depressed, fall back into non-beneficial old habits, get more depressed, accomplish the stuff that must be done and little more, and then poof, it’s December again. Then January 1st rolls around…and it’s the same story all over again.

I’ve found some alternative new year inspiration this year. And the critical, standout factor of this newest inspiration is the idea that I can envision my ideal life. Once I have a clear, detailed image in my mind, I can state specific habits and steps to take daily to create (or ensure the non-creation) of said life. It’s a Chase Hughes technique based on brainwashing/mental programming (Here’s a link to his YT video).

Weirdly this feels different to my neurospicy brain — in a good way. So, basically I’m going to try to hack my brain a bit in the coming year, and I’m inviting you along as my accountability buddies. This new endeavour has yielded my Word of the Year for 2025: Journey

The first step on this journey (free worksheet linked under his video) was for me to write down both an Ideal Outcome and the Least-Desired Outcome versions of my life. In this image you can see my version of the first few steps. I don’t own a printer here in Perú, so I’m running with a hand-written copy. This version has a brainstorm/brain-vomit section of possible milestones. I’ll write more on my ideal outcome(s) and potential milestones in an upcoming post.

My handwritten notes based on the free Neuro-Cognitive Institute worksheet.

Check in on my IG and YT soon for more about how the heck this all is going. Also, if I don’t post, be a good accountability buddy and pester me, would you? Thanks!

How are you doing? How’s 2025 treating you? Do you also dislike odd numbers as much as I do and are thus sad that 2024 (with all its lovely 2s and that delicious 4) is over? How can I help you as an accountability buddy? Let me know!
