On chasing dreams…What are you waiting for?

A friend recently posted about a decision to finally train for and go on a very, very, very long bicycle journey out West. This reminded me that I have, once again, become a bit side-tracked from really chasing my dreams. I’ve gotten caught up in all the “needs” on my time and put my own needs last. My mom used to do that, sacrifice her wants and desires and even her needs for those who needed her.

She died two years ago – she was 68. My daughter was just 8 months old. I was 38. I looked in the mirror and thought to myself, “Thirty more years. That’s it. Maybe less. What are you going to do with that time? What are you waiting for?” Indeed, what AM I waiting for? There will be no strike of lightning, no winning the lottery. If I’m going to fail, I’d better do it fast.

So here I am, taking a leap of faith. I’m going to give it a go, now, while I can. I’m getting off the arts-adjacent path:

·      I’m taking care of myself and finding balance in my life.

·      I’m carving out time for my artistic practice.

·      I’ve launched a website, complete with portfolio and shop.

·      I am showing up to write this blog.

What are you holding your breath on? Where’s your resistance? Can you identify it and overcome your procrastination? You don’t have to quit your day job to do it, but you cannot wait until retirement to have your greatest adventures. Live today. Live now. What are you waiting for?

This is a recent experimental “play” piece that I created following Louise Fletcher’s Find Your Joy taster course.

I’m overwhelmed with ideas but short on time, so I’m struggling to produce work in a timely fashion. Finding the balance between being a mother, tending a homestead, being a supportive wife and daughter, participating with our church family, etc. etc. etc.

This is not an advertisement: I got this to experiment with filming my process. It is absolutely terrifying to film oneself, just saying. #thestruggleisreal

This is my most recent painting which is still a work in progress. I filmed myself/took time-lapse images as I worked. I am enjoying the process on this, but I’m not quite sure it’s done. It also hasn’t told me its title just yet.
