The house project in Jaguey, Perú - Post 3

I started to write a blog about adult relationships with a focus on friendships, but I think I’m going to need a bit more time to untangle and/or properly express my thoughts on that in a meaningful, hopefully useful way. For now, I’m happy to give you a house in Jaguey update. While we were back in the States, the work continued down in Perú. My father-in-law Miguel made regular trips to the construction site, and my brother-in-law Stiven documented the process through photos that he sent us via WhatsApp.

In late April, my father George flew back down for a month long stay to oversee details of the construction project. I was absolutely amazed at how quickly things were able to progress.

The retaining wall grew to almost its full length. In the end, we needed one additional section to the right side of this photograph.

This is a view from the Lima side at the rear corner of the house. This back corner bedroom on the first floor will be for my mother- and father-in-law Irma and Miguel when they stay with us. The hillside had to be excavated, and we’ll have another retaining wall behind the structure to keep the sand from sliding down.

Here is initial construction from the Camaná side. This back corner bedroom on the first floor will be my father’s room.

Here’s the construction from above in a panoramic type photograph. (Photos 1-4 by Stiven Chavez Banda, April 2022)

By early May the foundation was in place, columns were growing, and the walls were being created using brick.

Building with concrete, rebar, and brick, is messy business. Here you can get a sense of what the view from the first floor will be.
